Nosework is one of the hottest dog sports around and continues to grow in popularity. It’s fun for both humans and dogs of all types- puppies to seniors, exuberant to shy, any can succeed. Once a dog becomes focused on odor, they gain the ability to ignore distractions and search for the target scent.

Your dog will learn to search for a “cocktail” of odor including birch, anise and clove. If you have competition aspirations, this class is a great first step. You will learn basic search concepts, how to properly handle odor and teach your dog “odor obedience.”

We will provide you with scent, scent tins, containers and other basic scent supplies. You will need a 10-15 ft long line and a comfortable harness for your dog. You can come to class on whatever equipment you regularly use, but as we progress, your dog will learn to search in the comfortable harness. And, of course, you will want lots of high value, non-crumbly treats!

Our goal will be for this to be a one hour class. However, since it is our first time teaching it, we are going to allow for up to an hour and a half, as we figure out the best formats, progressions etc. Your dog will not be working the entire time! They will need frequent breaks and you will watch others go, cheer them on etc. You may want to bring a comfy bed or buy one of our pups pads for them to chill out on during their down time.

Because school is still in session the first week of class, we have to meet in the afternoon- 4:00, the first week only, then we will move to 10:00 AM. We have exercises for you to practice the week leading up to class, so scent supplies will be available for pick up on May 9th, 4:30 at Scudder. Is this time does not work for you, please reach out to make alternate arrangements.

Lastly, your registration will come with access to a private YouTube page with videos you can refer to as you progress. We are so excited to dive into this class with you!
